Deuter Kid Comfort Venture or Deuter Kid Comfort Active - Comfort
Overall Comfort Winner: Deuter Kid Comfort Active
When determining which backpack to buy, Deuter Kid Comfort Venture or Deuter Kid Comfort Active, the differences in overall comfort should be considered.
In this case, the Deuter Kid Comfort Active is the winner for both child and adult comfort but both baby carrier backpacks utilize the same fit adjustment mechanism and are equally adjustable.
Adult Comfort Winner: Deuter Kid Comfort Active
First, let’s look at what is similar between the Deuter Venture and Deuter Active in regards to adult comfort. Both packs have padded hip belts and excellent load lifters. The differences in regards to adult comfort are that the Active has slightly thicker padding on the shoulder straps and the back panel design is different.
The Deuter Venture has a Contact Back System that includes ample padding and a thin mesh layer. The Deuter Active has a Aircontact Lite backsystem which has padding with spaces between where only mesh is in contact with the wearer. Both fit nice and snug, the design on the Active provides a bit more ventilation.
Neither of these Deuter options include hip belt extenders for added comfort for larger waists.
The Deuter Kid Comfort Active comes out just on top of the Deuter Kid Comfort Venture in the adult comfort category primarily due to slightly more padding and a better ventilated back panel.

Fit Adjustability Winner: Tie
Both the Deuter Kid Comfort Venture and Active include the Deuter VariQuick torso adjustment system. This system is simple and yet very effective for accommodating wearers of various sizes.
In order to adjust the shoulder straps from a smaller wearer to a larger wearer you simply lift the velcro VariQuick tab, remove and reinsert into a higher level loop then fold down the velcro.
While reviewing these baby carrier backpacks we noticed that the hip belt straps on the Venture were designed to be tightened by pulling out away from the body as opposed to the hip belt straps on the Active where you pull in towards your body. We prefer the hip belt strap tightening method on the Deuter Active as it is more intuitive and an easier motion but, this does not effect the adjustability. Both the Deuter Venture and Active fit torsos 15-20 inches and waists 24-54 inches.
Child Comfort Winner: Deuter Kid Comfort Active
Child Comfort is where the big differences between the Deuter Kid Comfort Venture and Active can be found.
First, let’s look at what is similar in regards to child comfort. Both of these baby backpack carriers include a padded 5 point harness and child cockpit compression. Neither the Deuter Kid Comfort Venture or Deuter Kid Comfort Active include a sunshade. We are huge fans of sunshades on baby carrier backpacks and feel that they are necessary for all packs. The Deuter sun roof is available for purchase separately here.
Now, the big differences are in what features are included. The Deuter Kid Comfort Active includes the removable padded chin pad and foot stirrups where the Deuter Kid Comfort Venture does not. These can be purchased separately. The foot stirrups can be purchased here ($10) and the chin pad here ($20).
The child cockpit on the Deuter Active is overall a bit more plush and includes ventilated side panels where the Venture does not.
In our opinion, in order to bring the Deuter Venture child comfort rating closer to the Deuter Active you would need to purchase the removeable chin pad and foot stirrups. The Venture would still fall short but, would be closer. The Deuter Kid Comfort Active is the clear winner in this category.
Deuter Kid Comfort Venture or Deuter Kid Comfort Active - Safety
Overall Safety Winner: Deuter Kid Comfort Active
Better safety features, Deuter Kid Comfort Venture or Deuter Kid Comfort Active?
Although both Deuter Kid Comfort models include similar safety features, we give the edge to the Deuter Kid Comfort Active due to the additional padding and foot stirrups included.
Child Safety Winner: Deuter Kid Comfort Active
While both the Deuter Kid Comfort Venture and Deuter Kid Comfort Active have similar child safety features, there are a few differences including padding and foot stirrups.
The Deuter Kid Comfort Active has more padding overall in the child cockpit. Including the removeable chin pad included and a more plush head rest behind the child. In addition, the Deuter Active includes mesh side panels with padding on the edges. This helps keep your passenger cool. The Deuter Venture has solid side panels with a less soft feel and chin pad is purchased separately.
In our opinion, foot stirrups should always be used once your child is around one year old. This provides a place for them to rest their feet, prevents their legs from swinging and allows for better circulation. Unfortunately, the Deuter Venture does not include foot stirrups. They can (and in our opinion should) be purchased separately here.
Sun Protection Winner: Tie
As mentioned above, the sunshade is not included with the Deuter Kid Comfort Venture or Deuter Kid Comfort Active and can be purchased here ($35). While the Deuter sunshade is not our favorite design, it does provide ample head room and protection from the sun especially mid day when the sun is overhead. The sunshade is easy to install by inserting the two back posts into the sleeves on the upper back sides of the pack then clip the two forward clips to the pack in front of the child cockpit.
The Sunshade is required if you plan to purchase and use the rain cover which we highly recommend for inclement weather. The rain cover can be purchased here.
If sun protection is a primary interest, take a look at the Osprey Poco (Review) and Osprey Poco Plus (Review). Both baby carriers include incorporated sunshades with side panels.
Nap Effectiveness Winner: Deuter Kid Comfort Active
Nap time is one of the best features of a child carrier backpack. The child gets great rest, and it provides a nice peaceful experience for the carrier. Sunshades not only help prevent your child from getting sun burned but can often provide an extra place for your child to lean their head while napping.
Deuter’s sunshade design does not include side panels so, it is not particularly helpful with supporting your child while they sleep but, it does provide sun protection. The Deuter Active is the winner in the nap effectiveness category because of the extra padding, chin pad included and foot stirrups included.
For The Kidpacker, the nap effectiveness rating really separates the Osprey Poco and Poco Plus from the competition.

Deuter Kid Comfort Venture or Deuter Kid Comfort Active - Other
Gear Storage Winner: Deuter Kid Comfort Active
At first glance the gear storage on these baby carrier backpacks look generally the same except the Deuter Active includes a zippered hip belt pocket and a mesh stuff pocket on the back. Neither the Deuter Kid Comfort Venture or Deuter Kid Comfort Active include dedicated water bottle holders, side pockets or zippered main compartment closures. Both child carrier backpacks utilize a hook and loop closure.
In this case, the Deuter Active has the edge over the Venture because of the hip belt pocket and mesh stuff pouch. In general, we prefer zippered closures in order to prevent items from falling out.

Extra Features Winner: Deuter Kid Comfort Active
An extra feature we like about the Deuter Kid Comfort Active is the side entry option, where your child can walk into the pack on their own. The Deuter Kid Comfort Venture does not include this feature.
Both packs can use the Deuter rain cover (sold separately here). This isn’t a must have, but close to it in order to protect your passenger from wind/rain and keep them a bit warmer. The sunshade must be purchased and engaged in order to use the rain cover.
Durability Winner: Tie
Both packs are made to last! While made of different fabrics, the Deuter Venture of 600 denier polyester yarn and with a thick PU coating and Deuter Active of 210 Denier Polyamide they both feel strong and tear resistant. The fabric on the Deuter Kid Comfort Active does not feel as wipeable for cleanup. Both baby carrier backpacks include strong aluminum frames with kickstands.
When it comes to durability, Deuter knows what they are doing and made two very well built packs.
Value Winner: Deuter Kid Comfort Active
The Deuter Kid Comfort Venture was designed to be ‘value-driven’ but, we feel that it falls short in this category. Considering the price of the Venture is $235 plus the accessories purchased separately (sunshade $35, Chin Pad $20 and foot stirrups $10) the total price is around $300. In contrast the Active price of around $250-$275 plus the sunshade ($35) puts the total price to $285-$315. With the overall comfort levels being higher on the Active, we feel it is a better value.
Overall Winner: Deuter Kid Comfort Active
If deciding between the Deuter Kid Comfort Venture or Deuter Kid Comfort Active, the primary difference is child comfort and what is included. If we are comparing these baby carrier backpacks out of the box, the Deuter Venture does not include the chin pad or foot stirrups. In our opinion these are both critical to your child’s comfort. Overall, the Deuter Kid Comfort Active is a more comfortable ride compared to the Venture.
Both packs are well made and are great looking child carriers. In this case it comes down to the details and we prefer the overall more comfortable design of the Kid Comfort Active.
They are both great products that will last and bring countless memories to you and your child.

If you are looking for a pack with the best sunshade and in our opinion best overall design, take a look a the Osprey Poco Plus (Review).
